Free Online Image Compressor

Shrink the file size of JPG, PNG and WEBP images without uploading them anywhere. Everything runs in your browser using the Canvas API, so your pictures never leave your device.

How to use the Image Compressor

  1. 1 Drop an image onto the upload area, or click to browse — JPG, PNG and WebP are all accepted.
  2. 2 Drag the quality slider and watch the size estimate update before you commit.
  3. 3 Compare the compressed preview against the original at the same zoom to judge whether the loss is visible.
  4. 4 Download the result. The file is produced in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

How to Use

Drop an image, choose a quality level, and the compressed preview and file size update instantly. Download the result when you are happy with the balance of quality and size.

  • Works with JPG, PNG and WEBP input
  • Quality slider from 10% to 100%
  • See original vs compressed size and savings
  • Optional max-width to downscale large images
  • No uploads — 100% private, in-browser processing

Why compress images?

Large images slow down page loads and hurt Core Web Vitals. Compressing them reduces bandwidth, improves SEO scores, and makes sharing easier — all without a visible loss of quality when using the right settings.

Frequently asked questions

What quality setting should I use?

For photographs, 75–85% is usually indistinguishable from the original at normal viewing size while cutting file size dramatically. Below about 60% you start to see blocking in smooth gradients such as skies.

Does compressing a PNG work the same way?

No. PNG is lossless, so there is no quality slider — it is reduced by colour quantisation instead, which is excellent for flat graphics and screenshots but poor for photos. For photographic content, convert to WebP or JPEG first.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs on a canvas element inside your browser, so your images never leave your device. That also means it works offline and there is no upload wait.
