Frequently asked questions
How long should a meta description be?
Aim for 150–160 characters. Google truncates longer ones in search results, and the cut is measured in pixels rather than characters, so wide letters truncate sooner. The description is a suggestion, not a ranking factor — Google often rewrites it.
Is the meta keywords tag still worth adding?
No. Google has ignored it since 2009 and has said it is a spam signal when abused. There is no benefit to including it; the visible content of your page is what counts.
What should the canonical URL point to?
The single preferred URL for that page, absolute and including the protocol and domain. It resolves duplicate-content issues when the same page is reachable at several addresses, such as with and without a trailing slash.
