Free Canonical Tag Generator
Create a clean rel="canonical" link tag for any page. Canonical tags tell search engines which URL is the preferred version of a page, consolidating ranking signals and preventing duplicate-content issues.
How to Use
Enter the full canonical URL of the page, choose the tag style (small, self-closing or full), and copy the generated tag into your page head.
- Normalises your URL (lowercases the host, trims trailing spaces)
- Escapes ampersands correctly for valid HTML
- Three output styles to match your codebase
- Copy with a single click
When to use a canonical tag
Use a canonical tag when the same content is reachable at multiple URLs — for example with tracking parameters, www vs non-www, or paginated archives. Every page should normally have exactly one canonical URL, and it should point to itself if there is no duplicate.
