Free IDN / Punycode Converter
Convert internationalized domain names (IDNs) that use non-ASCII characters — like münchen.de or 日本語.jp — to their ASCII Punycode form (xn--mnchen-3ya.de) and back. Punycode is how the DNS system represents unicode domains.
How to Use
Type a domain or full URL and choose the direction. Encode turns unicode into Punycode; Decode turns Punycode back into readable unicode.
- Encode unicode domains to xn-- Punycode
- Decode xn-- domains to unicode
- Handles subdomains and full URLs
- Copy the result instantly
What is Punycode?
The Domain Name System only allows ASCII characters, so browsers translate unicode labels into an ASCII-compatible encoding called Punycode, prefixed with xn--. This tool lets you see exactly what a domain looks like at the DNS level.
