Twitter Character Counter
Count a post the way X (Twitter) actually counts it, not the way a word processor does. CJK characters count double, emoji count as two, and any link is measured as a fixed 23-character t.co URL.
How X counts characters
X does not use a simple character count. Most Latin letters and punctuation weigh one unit, but scripts such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic weigh two. Every emoji — including multi-codepoint sequences such as flags and family emoji — weighs two regardless of how many code points it uses. Any URL is replaced internally by a 23-character t.co link, so a very long address still only costs 23.
- Weighted counting: Latin 1, CJK and others 2
- Emoji count as 2, even ZWJ sequences
- URLs normalised to 23 characters
- Standard 280 limit and 25,000 premium limit
- Thread estimate when you go over
