Depreciation Calculator

Build a year-by-year depreciation schedule for an asset. Choose straight-line for an even spread, declining balance to front-load the expense, or sum-of-years-digits for an accelerated method that still ends exactly at the salvage value.

Which method should you use?

Straight-line spreads the cost evenly, which suits assets that lose value at a steady rate. Declining balance charges more in the early years, matching assets like vehicles that drop sharply in value at first. Sum-of-years-digits is also accelerated but, unlike declining balance, its schedule always lands exactly on the salvage value at the end.

  • Straight-line, declining balance and sum-of-years-digits
  • Adjustable declining-balance factor (1.5x, 2x, …)
  • Full year-by-year schedule
  • Book value clamped at salvage
  • Monthly and total depreciation figures
