Ping Test / Latency Checker
Measure how long it takes to reach a host. This runs a series of timed HTTP requests and reports the minimum, average and maximum latency along with jitter and any lost attempts, which is a good proxy for how responsive a server feels.
How to Use
Enter a hostname such as example.com and choose how many attempts to make. Each attempt opens a request and measures the time until the reply arrives. A failed or timed-out attempt is counted as lost, the same way packet loss works in a traditional ping.
- Configurable number of attempts
- Minimum, average and maximum latency
- Jitter, the variation between attempts
- Loss count with a per-attempt log
- Latency bar chart for each attempt
HTTP latency, not ICMP
A browser cannot send ICMP echo requests, which is what the ping command uses, so this tool measures HTTP round-trip time instead. That is usually the more relevant number anyway: it includes DNS lookup, the TCP and TLS handshake and the server's own response time. The figures will therefore be a little higher than a command-line ping to the same host.
