SHA-512 Hash Generator

Generate a SHA-512 hash from any text input.

Free SHA-512 Hash Generator

The SHA-512 Hash Generator computes a SHA-512 checksum of any text using your browser’s native Web Crypto API. Everything stays on your device.

SHA-512 gives a longer digest than SHA-256 at a small speed cost. If the hash needs a secret key rather than plain integrity, use the HMAC Generator.

How to use the SHA-512 Hash

  1. 1 Type or paste the input text.
  2. 2 Read the 128-character hexadecimal digest.
  3. 3 Choose hex or Base64 output depending on what the receiving system wants.
  4. 4 Copy the digest into your code, config or ticket.

How to Use

Type or paste text and the SHA-512 hash appears instantly. Copy it for integrity verification and fingerprinting.

  • Native Web Crypto (SHA-512)
  • Instant, client-side hashing

Frequently asked questions

Should I use SHA-512 or SHA-256?

For almost everything, SHA-256 is the right default — it is fast, universally supported, and has no known practical weakness. SHA-512 produces a longer digest and can actually be faster on 64-bit hardware, since it processes 64-bit words natively, but the extra output length buys no meaningful security margin here.

Is SHA-512 good for storing passwords?

No, and neither is any other plain hash. Both are designed to be fast, which is exactly what an attacker wants. Password storage needs a deliberately slow, salted algorithm — bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2 — so each guess costs real time.

How long is a SHA-512 hash?

512 bits, written as 128 hexadecimal characters, or 86 characters when Base64-encoded. That length is usually what distinguishes it from SHA-384 and SHA-256 when you are trying to identify an unknown digest.
