Sort Lines (Alphabetical)

Sort a list alphabetically online — an alphabetizer that puts lines, names or words into ABC order, with case and reverse options.

Free Online Sort Lines Tool

The Sort Lines tool arranges each line of your text in order. Sort alphabetically, numerically, or case-insensitively, in ascending or descending order — ideal for lists, logs, and data cleanup.

How to use the Sort Lines

  1. 1 Paste your list, one item per line, into the box.
  2. 2 Pick a sort mode — alphabetical A to Z, Z to A, by length, or numerically.
  3. 3 Toggle "Remove duplicates" if you want repeated lines collapsed at the same time.
  4. 4 Copy the sorted list. Sorting is stable, so lines that compare equal keep their original order.

How to Use

Paste your list with one item per line, choose the order and sort type, then click Sort. The sorted list appears below.

  • Alphabetical — standard A–Z sorting
  • Case-insensitive — ignores upper/lower case
  • Numeric — sorts by the leading number on each line

Frequently asked questions

Why does "10" sort before "9" in alphabetical mode?

Alphabetical sorting compares characters, so it sees "1" before "9" and puts "10" first. Switch to numeric mode to sort by value instead — that is what you want for lists of numbers, prices or IDs.

Is the sort case-sensitive?

By default no, so "apple" and "Apple" sit next to each other. Enable case-sensitive sorting when you need strict ASCII order, where all uppercase letters come before lowercase ones.

Can I sort by a column in a CSV?

Not directly here — the tool treats each line as a single value. Sort by column is better handled by the CSV tools, or by reordering the fields so the column you care about comes first.
