Free Online Find & Replace Tool
The Find & Replace tool searches your text and swaps matches with a replacement string. Supports plain text or regular expressions, with an optional case-sensitive match — all processed locally in your browser.
How to use the Find & Replace
- 1 Paste your text into the main box.
- 2 Type the text to find in the "Find" field, and what should replace it in the "Replace with" field.
- 3 Tick "Match case" if capitalisation matters, or leave it off for a case-insensitive search.
- 4 Use Replace All to change every occurrence, or step through them one at a time to check each before committing.
How to Use
Paste your text, type what to find and what to replace it with, then click Replace All. Enable "Use regular expression" for pattern matching (e.g. \d+ for numbers).
- Case sensitive — matches exact letter case
- Regular expression — powerful pattern matching
- Invalid regex is caught and reported without crashing
Regular Expression Tips
Use .+ to match any run of characters, \d+ for digits, and (group) with $1 in the replacement to reuse parts. The tool applies the pattern globally across the whole text.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use regular expressions?
Yes — enable the regex option and the Find field is treated as a pattern. Capture groups are then available in the replacement as $1, $2 and so on, which is how you reorder parts of a match.
How do I delete every occurrence instead of replacing it?
Leave the "Replace with" field empty. Replacing with nothing removes each match, which is the quickest way to strip unwanted characters or boilerplate.
Does the case-insensitive mode change the replacement text?
No. Matching ignores case, but the replacement is inserted exactly as you typed it. That means replacing "color" with "colour" works regardless of how the original was capitalised.
