Remove Extra Spaces & Line Breaks

Remove extra spaces, tabs, and line breaks from text.

Free Online Remove Extra Spaces Tool

The Remove Extra Spaces tool cleans up messy text by collapsing repeated spaces, trimming lines, removing blank lines, or flattening everything into a single line. Ideal for tidying copied text before pasting it elsewhere.

How to use the Trim Spaces

  1. 1 Paste the messy text into the box above.
  2. 2 The cleaned version appears immediately, with runs of spaces, tabs and stray blank lines collapsed.
  3. 3 Choose which clean-ups to apply — leading and trailing spaces, double spaces, and blank lines are each optional.
  4. 4 Copy the result. Your original text is left untouched in the input box.

How to Use

Paste your text, tick the options you want, then click Clean. The result appears below — copy it with one click.

  • "Trim each line" removes leading/trailing spaces on every line
  • "Remove blank lines" deletes empty lines
  • "Collapse to one line" turns the whole text into a single spaced line

When Is This Useful?

Copied text from PDFs, spreadsheets, or websites often carries stray spaces and line breaks. Cleaning it first keeps your documents and code consistent.

Frequently asked questions

Does it remove line breaks as well as spaces?

Only if you enable that option. By default single line breaks are preserved so your paragraph structure survives; repeated blank lines are collapsed to one. Turn on the line-break option to flatten everything into a single paragraph.

Why does pasted text from a PDF have so many extra spaces?

PDF text extraction reconstructs words from positioned glyphs, so a wide gap between characters is emitted as several spaces. It also breaks lines wherever the printed page did. Running that text through this tool removes the spacing noise.

Can it fix non-breaking spaces?

Yes. Non-breaking spaces (U+00A0) and other invisible whitespace look identical to a normal space but are a different character, which breaks search and replace. This tool normalises them.
