    Percentage Increase Calculator

Work out percentage increase and decrease in four different ways: the change between two values, applying a percentage to a number, finding the original value before a change, and chaining several changes together.

    The four modes

Change between two values answers "what percentage did this go up or down by?". Apply a change answers "what is 150 increased by 12%?". Reverse finds the starting value when you only know the final value and the percentage that was applied. Successive changes compounds several increases and decreases in order — which is where the common mistake of simply adding the percentages shows up.

    • Percentage change between two values
    • Apply an increase or decrease to a value
    • Reverse: recover the original value
    • Chain multiple changes in sequence
    • Step-by-step working for every mode

    A common trap

A 10% rise followed by a 10% fall does not return you to where you started — it leaves you 1% below, because the second change is calculated on the larger intermediate value. The successive-changes mode shows exactly this effect.
