Free MD5 Hash Generator
The MD5 Hash Generator computes the MD5 checksum of any text. It runs entirely in your browser using a local hashing library — your input never leaves the page.
MD5 is fine for checksums but no longer safe for passwords — use the SHA-256 Generator for integrity work and bcrypt for anything credential-shaped. If you are not sure which algorithm produced a hash, the Hash Identifier will tell you.
How to use the MD5 Hash
- 1 Enter or paste the text to hash.
- 2 The 32-character MD5 digest is produced immediately.
- 3 Compare it against a published checksum to confirm two inputs are identical.
- 4 For anything security-related, switch to the SHA-256 tool instead.
How to Use
Type or paste text and the MD5 hash appears instantly. Copy it for checksums and integrity checks. (Note: MD5 is fast but not suitable for password storage.)
- Instant MD5 of any text
- Fully client-side (local library)
- Copy with one click
Frequently asked questions
Is MD5 still safe to use?
Not for security. MD5 is broken for collision resistance — researchers can construct two different files with the same hash, so it can no longer prove integrity against a deliberate attacker. It remains fine as a fast non-cryptographic fingerprint.
Why is MD5 still everywhere then?
It is fast and short, so it survives in legacy checksums, cache keys, deduplication and ETags. Those uses do not depend on collision resistance. If you are choosing a hash today for security, pick SHA-256 or better.
Why is the output always 32 characters?
MD5 produces a 128-bit digest, and each byte is written as two hex characters, giving 16 × 2 = 32. That fixed length holds no matter how long the input is.
