Cooking Measurement Converter
Switch between cups, tablespoons, millilitres, ounces and grams, and convert oven temperatures. Ingredient-aware density means a cup of flour and a cup of honey convert to different weights, as they should.
Recipes mix all three, so the Volume, Weight and Temperature converters are the usual companions.
How to use the Cooking Converter
- 1 Enter the quantity from your recipe.
- 2 Choose the source unit — cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, millilitres, fluid ounces, grams or ounces.
- 3 Pick the ingredient where the conversion depends on density, so the result reflects what you are actually measuring.
- 4 Read the converted amount in the units your own measuring tools use.
How to Use
Pick a conversion type — volume, weight or temperature. For volume-to-weight conversions, choose the ingredient so the density is applied correctly. Temperature conversion switches between Celsius and Fahrenheit, with fan-oven equivalents.
- Cups, spoons, ml and fl oz
- Grams and ounces
- Celsius / Fahrenheit / gas mark
- Ingredient density presets
- Common kitchen equivalents
Frequently asked questions
Why does one cup weigh different amounts for different ingredients?
Because a cup measures volume, not weight. A cup of water is about 237 g, a cup of plain flour about 120 g, and a cup of honey around 340 g. The conversion has to know the ingredient, which is why a generic cup-to-grams figure is unreliable.
How much does a tablespoon hold?
15 mL in the US, Australia and most metric countries, but 20 mL in Australia for historical reasons, and 17.76 mL in the UK before it metricated. Three teaspoons make a tablespoon in the US system.
Should I weigh ingredients instead of using cups?
For baking, yes. Scooping flour from a bag can vary by 20% or more depending on how packed it is, which is enough to change a cake texture. A cheap kitchen scale removes the guesswork entirely and makes recipes reproducible.
