Timezone Converter
Convert a date and time from one timezone to another, with daylight-saving handled automatically. Compare the same moment across several cities and see the offset difference at a glance.
Planning a meeting usually needs the raw timestamp too — Unix to Date and Date to Unix cover that, and Time handles durations.
How to use the Timezone Converter
- 1 Pick the date and time you want to convert.
- 2 Choose the source timezone and the destination timezone from the full list.
- 3 Read the converted time, along with the offset difference between the two zones.
- 4 Check the day change, which is easy to miss when converting across the date line.
How It Works
The converter uses the browser's built-in timezone database. It finds the UTC offset of each zone for the specific date you enter, so daylight saving is applied correctly rather than assumed.
- Handles daylight saving automatically
- Over 30 major world cities
- Compare one moment across many zones
- "Use current time" shortcut
- Nothing sent to a server
Frequently asked questions
Is UTC the same as GMT?
For everyday purposes, yes — both are zero offset. Technically UTC is the modern atomic-clock standard and GMT is a timezone that happens to share the offset. In software, always prefer UTC: it never observes daylight saving and is unambiguous year round.
Why does the offset between two cities change during the year?
Because daylight saving starts and ends on different dates in different countries, and some do not use it at all. For a few weeks each spring and autumn the gap between, say, London and New York is one hour different from the rest of the year. That is why offsets must always be calculated for a specific date.
Why should I avoid abbreviations like CST?
Because they are ambiguous. CST means Central Standard Time in the US, China Standard Time in China, and Cuba Standard Time in Cuba — three different offsets sharing three letters. Always name the city or use the UTC offset.
